Welcome to Captions Ai. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website and use our application.

Because Captions Ai operates heavily on local processing architecture (running directly in your web browser), we collect significantly less data than traditional cloud-based video editing services.

2. The "Local-First" Architecture

Captions Ai is designed with a privacy-first approach:

• No Media Uploads: When you use our tool, your video and audio files are never uploaded to our servers. They are processed entirely within your browser's memory on your device.
• Local AI Inference: The AI models used for speech recognition are downloaded to your device once and run locally. The transcription data never leaves your computer.
• Local Rendering: Video encoding and rendering happen utilizing your local CPU and GPU.

3. Information We Collect

A. Personal Data

If you create an account, we collect basic information needed to provide the service: Name, Email address, and Password (securely hashed). Payment Data: Free launch access does not collect payment card details. Any future paid service will have its payment terms and provider disclosed before purchase.

B. Usage Data

Optional usage reporting is disabled until you enable it in account settings. Events contain model mode, language, template ID and export dimensions. Generic failure reports contain a category and your account ID; they are not anonymous. Video, transcript, filenames and raw errors are excluded.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Browser local storage retains session information, preferences and consent choices. A video selected before sign-in is temporarily stored in IndexedDB on your device to restore it after Google login. It expires after 24 hours and is removed after caption generation, when replaced or when you clear browser data. Caption generation, translation and Roman transliteration run on your device; original caption tracks are retained. IndexedDB retains local projects, transcripts and original media. Optional cloud metadata sync sends project names, filenames, language and caption counts only when enabled. Clearing browser data deletes local work; keep original videos and JSON backups.

5. Third-Party Services

We employ third-party companies to facilitate our service:

• Supabase handles accounts and authentication; Google handles Google sign-in.
• Vercel hosts this website and receives ordinary web request information, including IP addresses and browser headers.
• Optional usage/failure reporting (Supabase) and model downloads (Hugging Face). These providers receive ordinary connection information.

6. Your Data Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR, CCPA, or other laws to: Access the personal data we hold about you, Request correction of inaccurate data, Request deletion of your data, or Object to processing.
